La Liga is the top division of Spanish football. The first season was played in 1928/29, with ten clubs, and the title went to Barcelona. Since then the competition has only stopped for the Spanish Civil War, between 1936 and 1939, and came back to become one of the continent’s great championships.
The roll of honour is dominated by Real Madrid and Barcelona, whose rivalry, El Clásico, is one of the most awaited matches in the calendar. But there has been room for other names: Atlético de Madrid, Athletic Club, Valencia, Real Sociedad and Deportivo La Coruña, champions in 1999/2000, have all lifted the title too. It is a league where individual talent has a stage every week and where a slip by the favourites always gets people talking.
Over a long season, a prediction league is won through consistency. On WisePaul, each match locks at kick-off, other people’s predictions only become visible once the match has locked, results come in on their own and the table is recalculated after every match, with recent form, scoring streaks and up and down arrows. Anyone joining while the season is under way counts only the remaining matches.
Request your league and we set up the competition and the rules for you; the organiser gets access and an invite code to share with the company, the family or the group of friends. All that is left is deciding who becomes the league champion.
