The Premier League is the top division of English football. It was born in 1992, when the clubs of the old First Division broke away from the Football League to create a competition of their own, and the first season, 1992/93, was won by Manchester United. English football is far older than that: the country’s national league has existed since 1888, one of the oldest in the world.
The roll of honour is short and full of stories. Besides Manchester United, the trophy has been lifted by Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Leicester City, who in 2015/16 won a title almost nobody saw coming. Arsenal in 2003/04 went through the whole season without losing, a feat that earned them the nickname the Invincibles. It is this mix of big favourites, surprises and local rivalries that turns every matchday into an invitation to predict.
Over a long season, a prediction league is won through consistency. On WisePaul, each match locks at kick-off, other people’s predictions only become visible once the match has locked, results come in on their own and the table is recalculated after every match, with recent form, scoring streaks and progress matchday by matchday. Anyone joining while the season is under way counts only the remaining matches, so everyone starts level.
Request your league and we set up the competition and the rules for you; the organiser gets access and an invite code to share with the company, the family or the group of friends. With participants in several countries, everyone sees kick-offs in their local time, in 7 languages.
